GreenFiber qualifies for Weatherization Energy Tax Credit

Federal Stimulus Package Provides Additional Benefits For Home Insulation Projects

GreenFiber, manufacturer of GreenFiber natural fiber blow-in insulation, is alerting homeowners that extended federal tax credits are available for weatherization improvement projects including re-insulation now through December 2010.

he American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 allocated $5 billion to enhance the Weatherization Assistance Program, which allows families to reduce their energy bills by making their homes more energy efficient. In addition, a homeowner can receive a 30 percent federal tax credit of up to $1,500 for the addition of GreenFiber natural fiber insulation to their home.

“The current economic climate has presented homeowners with a unique set of challenges, and investing resources to help make homes more efficient now is a sound way to help save money several times over in the long-term,” said Dennis Barrineau, president of US GreenFiber, LLC. “Research shows that four out of five homes in the United States are under insulated, and properly insulated homes are more comfortable for families and can save them money by requiring less energy to cool in the summer and heat in the winter.”

Adding insulation is an easy project for any homeowner and, combined with other weatherization steps, can cut heating and cooling costs up to 20 percent. This federal tax credit, made available as part of the federal stimulus package, is available through Dec. 31, 2010.

The Department of Energy estimates that 80 percent of older homes are under-insulated. Using GreenFiber for DIY home insulation improvement projects not only lowers home energy bills and helps provide greater comfort, it also shows a commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable building practices.

GreenFiber is committed to the environment; it begins by diverting paper materials from landfills for its natural fiber insulation to a manufacturing process that requires ten times less energy than other types of insulation; it continues through local distribution models that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions; and it ultimately delivers value to homeowners with a natural fiber insulation product that provides increased energy savings.

Additionally, GreenFiber keeps 350,000 tons of paper out of landfills each year through recycling and Community Paper Recycling Programs. Refuse efficiency experts state that paper products account for 34 percent of landfill space -- enough office and writing paper each year to build a wall 12 feet high from Los Angeles to New York City.

Established in 2000 and headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., GreenFiber is the largest manufacturer of natural fiber insulation, fire and sound products. With manufacturing plants located throughout the United States that use local distribution models and require less transportation, GreenFiber products are sold to building supply retailers, and new residential construction in the U.S. and Canada.
